2 music videos from the websight

For homework we was asked to analyse 2 out of 10 music video's from a websight we was given. We was asked to explain why we like these 2 videos out of the 10.

The first video I liked was the second video called "cold war" by Janelle Monae. Even thoe this video got quite boring as it was the same all the way through, there was two main things that caught my attention as a viewer. The first reason was because of the lip syncing throughout the video. This lip syncing was perfect and in time with the music the whole way through the video. This is vital in a music video and I will need to be able to lip sync well enough as im including this in my groups video. Secondly i liked this music video as it showed performance. The artist was singing throughout the whole song and the camera showed the artists performing and i will also have a short clip of somebody performing in my music video i create. The video was boring but these two things were important in the video. As i viewer i could tell that this video did not have much money spend on it, as there was no famous locations and the artist is not as famous as other artists of that genre.

Konvict music record label

Konvict Muzik is a record label founded by Melvin Brown and R&B singer Akon. Other then Akon there are other popular artists such as Kardinal Offishall, Kat DeLuna, Lady GaGa, American Yard, Brick & Lace, T-Pain and Sway signed to the label. At the beginning of most Konvict Muzik artists' songs there is the sound of the clank of a jail cell, followed by Akon uttering "Konvict". Sway signed to Konvict Record labels in 2007, being the only UK artist signed to the label. Konvict Muzik was founded in 2005 covering genres of R&B, Raggae, Hip Hop and Urban. Konvict Muzik is American located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Interscope records is the distrubutor of Konvict Muzik. Interscope records is an American record label, owned by Universal Music Group, and operates as one third of UMG's Interscope-Geffen-A&M label group.

Konvict Muzik records is a label being parented by Universal Music Group. It is the largest business group and family of record labels in the recording industry. It is the largest of the 'big four' record companies by its commanding market share and its multitude of global operations

Record Label Dirtee stank

Dirtee Stank; Dizzee Rascal.

Dizzee Rascal has his own record label called Dirtee Stank, however both of his albums have been produced and released by XL Recordings. Dirtee Stank has a MySpace page that suggests that the label is bringing many different genres together such as indie, majors and the street in order to reach all audiences.

After XL Recordings released Dizzee’s first two albums, the song “Dance Wiv Me” featuring Calvin Harris, was released by Dirtee Stank. Other songs such as, bonkers, holiday were then released by the label and his latest album “Tongue n Cheek” were also released by the label.

There are other artists registered to the label, these are; Newham Generals and Smurfie Syco.

XL Recordings is an independent British record label, and was launched by Tim Palmer, Nick Halkes and Richard Russell. This was done with Beggars Banquet Records in 1989. This was because they wanted to release their rave and dance music. The label has now grown as one of the most commercially successful record label in the UK.

XL Recordings has many successful artists signed to them such as;

Columbia records is an american record label owned by sony music entertainment, and operates as an inprint of the columbia/epic record label group. Columbia records was founded in 1888, evolving from an earlier enterprise, the American Graphophone Company - successor to the Volta Graphophone Company. From 1961 to 1990, its recordings where released outside the U.S. and Canada on the CBS records label before adopting the Columbia name in most of the world. Steve Barnett and Rick Rubin are the co-heads of Columbia Records.

Last lesson ( 7th september )

In this lesson we had Mr Winters. We was learning to upload music videos from youtube onto our blogs which was very helpful as i sometimes struggled on doing this. As our class is small we was able to ask the teacher more questions and get more help if we were stuck. I learnt many things in this lesson. For example we was shown by Mr Winters how to comment on other peoples posts from our class. This meant classmates were able to comemnt on my posts which allowed me to realise what i could do to improve my work. I learnt that the colour was crucial and images and videos are important.

Analysing 2 music videos from my genre

- In the video there is a girl with the artist
- Lots of close ups of the artist face
- Close ups of the artists costumes
- Close up of different trainers shows the style which suits the genre
- The video is mainly set inside a house which seems to be a house party
- The camera shows the artist lip syncing



- The video is set in a prison
- All the people in the video are wearing white tops to show they are in a prison
- Close ups of the arists ( skepta ) facial expressions
- The artist is playing football
- When the artist is rapping at a fast pace the music speeds up to match the genre and the tempo
- Boys in school uniform are involved in the video
- They are also dressed in casual clothes, for example the artist is dressed in jeans and a polo top
- Long shots of the surroundings
- Close up of random people withint he video
- Rapid quick cuts between shots
